0:31 as I like boxy though it is a little bit

0:33 sharper in some places oh and they also

0:35 uh made the bezels a little bit

0:38 thinner so now the screen is 6.9 in

0:41 instead of 6.8 nice uh and it's also a

0:44 bit of a more durable Gilla glass on the

0:46 outside but just remember it's still

0:49 glass um also the camera rings on the

0:52 outside are just a little more

0:56 pronounced fancy you know but none of

0:58 this really makes a huge difference to

1:00 usability to really understand this

1:02 phone you have to look what's happening

1:14 inside so there's basically one major

1:17 new thing to care about with this

1:20 phone see if you watched the OnePlus 13

1:23 review you know I talked about the three

1:24 big pillars that a bunch of these new

1:26 flagships coming out in 2025 are going

1:28 to have the Snapdragon 8 leite chip

1:30 these super bright new displays and

1:33 silicon carbide batteries all pretty

1:35 awesome Technologies but this new s25

1:38 Ultra only has one of those things it

1:41 has the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip it also

1:42 doesn't have ip69 it doesn't add G2

1:46 magnets it doesn't bring back the 10x

1:48 Zoom or even add high frequency pwm

1:51 dimming they even actually downgraded

1:53 the SP pen which I'll get to in a minute

1:55 they have just played it incredibly safe

1:58 with this phone they just took last

2:00 year's award-winning flagship phone and

2:02 did the bare minimum a spec bump and

2:06 here's the thing Samsung in the US has

2:10 risen to this point where that's kind of

2:13 all we realistically expect from them

2:16 anymore it's kind of the same thing with

2:17 the iPhone by the way because in places

2:19 like the US where they're huge they just

2:21 actually don't have pressure to compete

2:23 directly against the vivos and xiaomi

2:26 and oppos of the world because those

2:28 guys don't have any meaningful traction

2:29 in the US so Samsung has established

2:32 themselves as the go-to safe option for

2:36 so many people so now that they have of

2:38 course they're playing it safe so I and

2:39 other reviewers will say things like

2:41 well if you want another great phone but

2:43 has a brighter display ip69 a way better

2:47 battery life faster charging and a $400

2:49 lower price tag you can get a OnePlus 13

2:52 and it'll be awesome now you won't

2:54 really find it in most carrier stores

2:56 around here but you can find it if you

2:58 know what you're looking for and it

2:59 doesn't really really work with every

3:00 carrier like Verizon you can forget

3:02 about it but I can't daily it on AT&T

3:05 only really because they don't support

3:07 Wii calling on devices that aren't

3:10 officially carried by them so in this

3:12 soundproof video Studio I can't make

3:14 calls all the time so it's just brutal

3:16 for me but you could probably still make

3:18 it work or how about if you just want a

3:19 flagship with better cameras across the

3:21 board Vivo X200 Pro it's the obvious

3:24 choice you'll have to import it if you

3:26 know what you're doing and most people

3:28 don't but that's a good option and look

3:30 I could go on and on but here as long as

3:33 people in the US buy their phones from

3:35 carriers which they do and as long as

3:37 they keep putting out phones that play

3:39 it safe and don't totally suck which

3:41 they are then they will continue to be

3:43 the go-to and people will just keep

3:45 buying them and they will never feel

3:46 threatened so this phone plays it safe

3:51 doesn't totally suck that new Snapdragon

3:53 8 Elite chip is really good it's the

3:56 best part of this phone honestly

3:58 compared to last year the phone is is

4:00 fast as hell it benchmarks crazy high

4:02 rivaling Apple's a pro chip it's a

4:04 little lower in single core but it's

4:06 actually higher in multicore and using

4:08 this phone it's just so smooth it's

4:10 smoother and more efficient than ever

4:12 before so I have nothing but good things

4:14 to say about the performance Samsung

4:16 also paired that chip with a 40% larger

4:18 Vapor chamber and none of my regular use

4:20 has gotten anywhere near warming up this

4:23 phone and it looks like all the

4:24 international versions of the s25 is are

4:25 all going to get this new chip so no

4:27 xnos chips in certain regions everyone

4:29 is going to enjoy this performance but

4:32 that's also all going to be true about

4:34 basically every other Flagship that

4:35 comes out in the Android world for the

4:37 next 10 11 months so if you pick this

4:40 phone it won't be because of the chip it

4:41 will be because of Samsung's stuff all

4:45 their software one ui7 and the AI

4:48 features they've chosen to add so

4:50 Samsung software is good it just got

4:52 this big overhaul with one ui7 on top of

4:54 Android 15 and the longer I use it

4:56 honestly the more I like it I do keep

4:58 seeing features that are clearly

5:00 inspired by iOS which is totally normal

5:03 but they've kind of done it in their own

5:05 way so like instead of the total Dynamic

5:07 Island copycat like OnePlus did they

5:09 have this new now bar at a more

5:12 reachable spot at the bottom of the

5:13 phone that shows ongoing activities like

5:15 timers with Samsung's timer or ongoing

5:19 navigation instructions with Google Maps

5:21 or media with Spotify and if you click

5:23 it it'll expand and give you more info

5:26 so that's nice or the new notification

5:28 shade which is swipe down from the right

5:30 for quick controls or swipe down from

5:31 the left for notifications where have we

5:33 seen that before but with this one you

5:36 can actually then swipe back and forth

5:38 between them and you can change which

5:39 side is which in the settings if you

5:41 want to so that's nice the new lock

5:43 screen customization is also clearly

5:45 inspired you know hold down on your lock

5:47 screen to bring it up play with the

5:49 clock placement and The Styling and font

5:51 weights but there are way more Styles

5:53 and options with Samsung's here and then

5:56 of course there's all the new AI stuff

5:59 some of of which is good some of which

6:02 is pretty weak I found so i' I've used

6:04 the object eraser in the photos app for

6:06 example a few times it's really good if

6:08 you ever need to remove a background

6:10 object with AI gener to fill this is one

6:12 of the best ones the natural language

6:14 search in the settings and the gallery

6:16 also really good I love just being able

6:18 to find a setting buried in there with

6:20 hundreds of available options just by

6:22 saying the right thing and finding an

6:24 old photo by describing it is even more

6:26 cool and it actually works AI select is

6:30 decent I was hoping it would be a little

6:32 more responsive and like react more

6:34 obviously to different contexts on my

6:35 screen but I like that it lets you

6:37 quickly summarize something text related

6:39 or make a gif quickly from something

6:41 like a video I'm still more of a circle

6:43 to search guy though the daily briefs

6:44 though honestly not that good every time

6:47 I click it I wonder why it's being shown

6:50 to me it's barely AI it's just like

6:52 here's your calendar again here's the

6:53 weather again here's a single random

6:55 news story and maybe a Spotify playlist

6:57 that's it I'm going to turn this one off

6:59 but wor first of all is actually the

7:01 unknown cost see I don't know if you

7:03 caught it but Samsung's messaging about

7:05 all these AI features has been you know

7:07 they're the greatest thing ever they're

7:09 the biggest new features on these phones

7:10 but also free until the end of

7:16 which but then what they haven't said so

7:19 you know clearly these AI features

7:21 they've cost some money to develop and

7:24 they cost some money to run and so

7:26 they're free for now but we don't really

7:28 know what point is Samsung going to

7:30 start charging for them how much are

7:31 they going to charge part of me thinks

7:33 Samsung doesn't even really know the

7:34 answer to that question yet they might

7:35 be reacting to other companies or

7:37 waiting for others to make moves first

7:39 but just in general it's not great to

7:40 have that looming over your head as a

7:43 user also I I feel like I need to do

7:45 some sort of AI commercial versus

7:49 reality comparison at some point or

7:51 something because I don't know about you

7:53 but I don't know how long it's going to

7:55 be before we get to the point where I

7:56 ask an AI to plan a trip for me and then

7:59 I just follow the trip blindly like I I

8:03 still want some control I don't trust it

8:05 that much yet now even now Gemini on

8:07 this phone plus a few plugins lets it do

8:10 some more interesting and complicated

8:12 things like it can reach into Apps and

8:14 do compound tasks so I can say things

8:16 like uh look up the next Brooklyn Nets

8:19 home game and add it to my calendar and

8:22 it'll do it and I've done stuff like

8:24 that and been impressed but then I'll

8:26 see one or two little errors in it and

8:28 it's not quite 100 % accurate and then

8:31 it kind of breaks the illusion of the

8:33 magic and I don't feel like I would

8:35 trust it to do the bigger things so

8:37 that's a story for another day though

8:39 here's something about this phone though

8:40 that really summarizes so many of the

8:42 thoughts I've had about it this is one

8:44 of the only phones with this the Spen a

8:48 super precise stylus that fits into the

8:51 side of the phone already a pretty Niche

8:54 feature they first added it to the ultra

8:56 from the note series with the s22 and

8:59 they've continued adding capabilities to

9:00 it over the years this year Samsung

9:03 removed the Bluetooth functionality from

9:05 the Spen which means it can no longer be

9:07 used as a remote control shutter for the

9:08 camera or for any of the media playback

9:11 controls and the old S Pen which does

9:13 that stuff on the old phone doesn't fit

9:15 in the new phone so they took a feature

9:17 away and the justification was well the

9:19 data shows that people didn't really use

9:22 it less than 1% of people ever actually

9:24 activated that feature on the phone so

9:26 we just got rid of it and logically I

9:30 guess that does make sense but if you

9:34 follow that logic out many people never

9:36 even use the stylus at all why not

9:38 remove that and I think the answer is

9:41 right in the name it's supposed to be

9:43 the ultra it's supposed to be the phone

9:44 for cramming in tons of extra features

9:47 extra little things for the small amount

9:49 of people who will actually use them and

9:51 notice them and love them if we didn't

9:54 want all that we'd just get a regular

9:55 s25 like Samsung you know you just added

9:58 log to the camera app right like this is

10:01 a feature almost no one is going to even

10:03 know their phone has but for the people

10:06 who will use it like maybe a YouTube

10:08 Creator who has an entire car channel

10:10 that they run where they just shoot it

10:11 on phones it's awesome it's going to be

10:13 a great feature but you know okay it

10:15 doesn't add to the build materials so I

10:17 guess you don't have to get rid of that

10:18 but what about the new 50 megapixel

10:20 Ultra wide camera that's also it's been

10:22 a genuinely nice upgrade it still bends

10:24 to 12 megapixels but all of my ultrawide

10:26 shots now are much sharper corner to

10:28 corner and in Darker light the better

10:30 sensor gathers more light and gives more

10:32 usable images consistently it's

10:34 something a lot of people wouldn't have

10:36 noticed but in the ultra it's worth it

10:39 so when Samsung says they got rid of the

10:40 Bluetooth and downgraded the S Pen it's

10:43 not that that decision doesn't make

10:44 logical sense it's just that we wanted

10:46 the reason to be we got rid of that so

10:49 we could fit in this other awesome

10:50 feature that we just shoved into this

10:52 phone because it's crammed with useful

10:53 stuff but there's none of that like this

10:56 phone is supposed to be the best that

10:59 they can offer it's in the name it's

11:01 what we pay the premium for but this

11:04 specific decision was it's just the most

11:06 obvious example of we're not really

11:09 concerned actually about that here it's

11:11 more like we could save a few cents per

11:14 unit and continue to appeal towards the

11:17 masses I'm going to go ahead and guess

11:19 that's why this phone also doesn't have

11:20 a silicon carbide battery I'm going to

11:22 guess that's why they didn't spring for

11:24 ip69 certification I'm guessing that's

11:26 also why they didn't add G2 magnets into

11:29 the phone itself because even without

11:31 that stuff this phone is still fine

11:34 honestly it's still really good even

11:35 without a huge display upgrade this is

11:37 still absolutely one of the best

11:39 displays super crisp very bright High

11:42 refresh rate ltpo and it's got that

11:45 underrated anti-reflective coating media

11:47 looks great on it games look great on it

11:50 it's just not the best you know the new

11:53 chip works wonders with efficiency and

11:55 battery life has been awesome on this

11:57 phone I've ended days with 304 40% left

12:00 but it's not the best but hey it's still

12:02 awesome the rest of the cameras Beyond

12:04 this Ultra wide are basically staying

12:05 the same as last year and they've turned

12:07 out to be totally fine too plenty of

12:55 little bit faster not a lot faster but a

12:57 little bit faster um and the hardware in

13:00 general I I think it feels a little more

13:04 thoughtful stuff like they flip the SIM

13:06 card tray to the opposite orientation

13:08 which doesn't sound like much but more

13:10 than once I have poked the microphone of

13:11 a phone instead of the SIM card ejector

13:13 Port because of a confusing location so

13:16 I appreciate that the regular s25 and

13:18 s25 plus have basically every single

13:21 software and AI feature that I've talked

13:23 about for this entire video and the new

13:25 Snapdragon 8 Elite chip so my initial

13:27 thoughts about maybe the cost of the

13:29 Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy being like

13:32 a big bump making them feel the pressure

13:35 trying to squeeze down like other cost

13:37 savings on the phone taking out

13:38 Bluetooth from the Spen I thought that

13:39 might hold water but not anymore cuz
