2:17 loved Matt Reeves the Batman I thought

2:20 it was just an incredible movie I've

2:21 seen it multiple times it feels so much

2:24 like Batman the Animated Series but

2:26 translated into a much more harder

2:29 version of that liveaction it just felt

2:31 so right to me and whenever I experience

2:34 something that just feels like they got

2:36 everything right it's hard to imagine it

2:39 going anywhere else but South because

2:41 we've seen that happen so many times but

2:43 that is not the case with the penguin

2:45 this show is exceptional it's one of the

2:47 best new TV shows I've seen in years it

2:51 maintains the general feel of Matt

2:53 Reeves universe but it by no means is

2:55 the exact same look it's certainly not

2:56 shot by Greg Frasier it's a beautiful

2:59 looking show show regardless the Batman

3:01 had a lot of aerial shots you were with

3:03 him on the rooftops for a lot of that

3:05 movie you really felt the scope of

3:07 Gotham from his POV this show is about a

3:11 guy who's on the streets trying to

3:13 control those very streets he's down

3:15 there with the lowest of the low and so

3:17 this show is often times looking up

3:19 you're with Oz as these towering

3:21 skyscrapers Loom over him and you feel

3:24 like you're part of Gotham City but not

3:26 from the perspective of a rich guy with

3:29 a Batman suit from the perspective of

3:30 somebody who has Channing Tatum so

3:32 brilliantly said in Deadpool and

3:34 Wolverine is trying to make a name for

3:36 himself let's talk about the obvious

3:38 this has been discussed a lot everyone

3:40 is Amazed by this but Colin frell's

3:42 transformation into this character aided

3:44 by the incredible makeup by Michael

3:46 Marino and his whole team is absolutely

3:48 uncanny I mean I believe that I could

3:50 show this to my mother and not mention

3:52 Colin frell she has no idea who this is

3:54 and just say that's a new unknown actor

3:56 they found who's really good at his job

3:59 and she'd believe me because you can't

4:01 see him and it's not just the makeup

4:03 it's the way he carries himself it's the

4:05 way his voice sounds it's everything

4:07 about his mannerisms it's more of that

4:10 great performance that was in that

4:11 original film but like any great sequel

4:13 or spin-off it expands upon his

4:15 character to such a great extent knowing

4:18 now the things that happened to him in

4:19 his childhood not just things that

4:21 happened to him things he did in his

4:23 childhood to his brothers for instance

4:25 letting them drown in a sewer without

4:27 doing anything about it just because he

4:29 wanted complete control over his mother

4:31 he's an even more Sinister presence now

4:33 they've built so much around him that if

4:36 he is in the Batman part two and if he

4:39 continues to get another season it's

4:41 just going to be so exciting to watch

4:43 him go and I'm just going to say this as

4:45 much as I enjoyed walking Phoenix's

4:47 portrayal of Joker this is by far my

4:50 favorite new liveaction DC villain what

4:53 Colin Ferell is doing here and the whole

4:55 makeup team is astounding what's also

4:58 remarkable about this is that this has a

5:00 very difficult Balancing Act and that is

5:02 that you've got to care a little bit

5:05 about Oz but he's got to still be a

5:07 villain if you look at the three Venom

5:10 movies that Tom Hardy's done I imagine

5:13 they were trying to do something similar

5:15 there but those movies have gone way

5:17 more towards the superhero side and far

5:20 less towards the villain side in the

5:22 most recent Venom movie he ate some bad

5:24 guys heads and that's about it he's

5:26 essentially a superhero in those movies

5:29 this ser iies maintains thoroughly his

5:31 presence as a villain but finds ways to

5:35 give you unexpected quote unquote save

5:37 the cat moments like for instance when

5:39 he meets Vic and no pun intended takes

5:42 him under his wing and teaches him the

5:44 ropes you like him you see him with his

5:47 mother and you're like look at him he

5:49 cares for his mother isn't that sweet

5:52 and look he he was merciful to this kid

5:54 on the street he's really trying he's

5:57 like a good person underneath all of

5:59 that he's just been dealt a bad hand in

6:02 life right and you watch most of the

6:04 show with that impression and it's great

6:08 because they have established that very

6:10 difficult thing make you feel some

6:12 Humanity for a villain character make

6:14 you care enough to keep watching but by

6:17 the end of the show all of the things

6:19 that they gave you to make you care

6:21 about oz to make him seem like a human

6:24 being they strip those away oh he's so

6:27 nice and sweet with his mother well

6:29 that's because he killed his young

6:31 Brothers essentially when they were

6:33 young because he just wanted to have his

6:35 mother's love only to himself oh isn't

6:38 he so sweet with this kid Vic it's like

6:39 he's a father figure to him oh he's

6:41 going to murder him in Cold Blood during

6:43 the finale but wait at least there's

6:45 that woman he has a bit of a thing with

6:47 right at least he's nice to her he

6:49 doesn't ask her to do anything weird

6:50 right they're just kind of a normal nice

6:52 little relationship give and take

6:54 whatever oh actually no he's going to

6:56 make her dress up like his mother and

6:58 tell him that he's doing a good job this

7:01 is storytelling of a very high order

7:03 you're making the audience care about

7:05 someone who is Despicable you're making

7:07 him seem like he isn't and then

7:09 revealing that he absolutely is but I

7:12 think the true revelation of this show

7:14 is Kristen Mady as Sophia Falone I've

7:17 liked her a lot in the past she was

7:18 really good in Palm Springs among some

7:20 other things but I have never seen her

7:22 like this she is a scene stealer and

7:24 she's acting across Colin frell as

7:26 penguin so that's an accomplishment she

7:29 is is so intense and so remarkably real

7:32 and her backstory in Arkham Asylum is

7:34 the show's second best episode I think

7:37 the finale being my favorite the way

7:39 these characters but especially her are

7:41 maneuvered throughout this show you're

7:43 not just watching Oz manipulate the

7:45 underworld to get what he wants you're

7:47 watching her kill her entire family so

7:50 that she can regain power over a family

7:52 that cast her out and forgot about her

7:55 this just makes me so incredibly excited

7:57 for what Matt Reeves can do with the

7:59 Batman because it's apparent that this

8:01 team as well as Lauren lefran and her

8:03 great showr running it just proves that

8:05 with the best writers you're going to

8:06 get the best material another difficult

8:09 thing the show had to do and it pulled

8:10 it off is not acknowledge Batman this

8:14 takes place after he's become a thing in

8:16 Gotham City he was kind of new in Matt

8:19 Reef's film but he's established now

8:21 people know who he is people know who

8:23 the Riddler is this is all like part of

8:25 the universe so how can you have

8:28 obstacles and St akes and things

8:30 happening where Batman wouldn't show up

8:33 and they made the brilliant choice to

8:36 essentially have all of Gotham's crime

8:38 bosses trying to kill each other I could

8:41 totally see Batman just kind of chilling

8:43 in his Batcave watching all that happen

8:45 being

8:47 like okay makes my job easier and I also

8:50 just really respect them for that I

8:51 could easily have seen the finale being

8:53 like well we got to have Batman show up

8:55 and maybe they'll do that in season two

8:56 who knows and that's fine but the idea

8:59 that that they have presented their

9:00 first complete season without

9:03 acknowledging or relying on the presence

9:05 of Batman just makes me respect this

9:07 even more the penguin is wonderful I'm

9:09 sure most of you have seen it especially

9:10 if you're watching this video I hope you

9:12 did but if you haven't for some reason
