0:01 remove extremely harsh and impossible

0:02 Shadows hoping that you'll also remove

0:04 it from your life as well a couple

0:06 months ago actually a couple years ago I

0:08 had made a video about removing harsh

0:10 shadows and back then we used

0:11 complicated masks and all of that stuff

0:14 but right now I've improved upon my

0:16 technique and you don't have to use any

0:17 of that so without any further Ado let's

0:20 get started back in the magical world

0:21 the Photoshop and if you want to go

0:22 ahead and download this photo and follow

0:24 along you know what to do check the

0:25 links in the description when you have a

0:27 shadow this harsh just brightening it

0:30 won't solve the issue because there's

0:31 going to be color differences there's

0:33 going to be a lot of different

0:34 differences and also the lighting inside

0:36 of the Shadow area is going to be a bit

0:37 different because the main light is of

0:39 course not going there so we need to

0:40 create a kind of an illusion to help us

0:42 work first of all let us Target the

0:44 shadows and brighten it up for it you

0:47 guessed it right we're going to create a

0:48 curves adjustment layer by clicking on

0:50 the adjustment layer icon and then

0:51 choosing curves and instead of using

0:54 masks we're going to use something else

0:56 first of all just brighten it up like so

0:59 second L let's double click on the right

1:01 hand side of this layer this opens up

1:03 the layer style dialog box and you know

1:05 where we are going with this in the

1:06 blend if section we need to take it away

1:09 from the bright areas so let's move it

1:10 right there and we are taking it away

1:12 from the bright areas of the underlying

1:14 layer or the layer that lies under it so

1:16 we need to play with the underlying

1:18 layer sliders and we need to take it

1:20 away from the bright areas so let's take

1:22 the slider on the right to the left like

1:25 so now of course this is going to be a

1:27 bit harsh so I'm going to stop right

1:29 above out there hold the ALT key or the

1:31 option key click on it to make the

1:34 transition a little bit smoother maybe

1:36 we're going to stop right there now we

1:38 cannot make it absolutely smooth because

1:40 shadows and falloffs are different in

1:43 different areas this seems to be about

1:45 right for now hit okay now as you can

1:48 see the colors are a bit different here

1:50 and there so first of all let's take

1:52 away the color so that it's not

1:53 distracting us anymore we're going to

1:55 recolor this later click on the

1:56 adjustment layer icon and then choose

1:58 solid color and pick any color gray

2:01 white black any color with zero

2:03 saturation hit okay and change the blend

2:05 mode to color now this is different from

2:08 just creating a hug saturation

2:10 adjustment layer and decreasing the

2:11 saturation if you want to learn more

2:13 about it check out this video on check

2:14 layers later but for right now we have

2:16 taken the colors away and it's no more

2:18 distracting us so we can get back to our

2:20 curves by double clicking on the symbol

2:22 of the adjustment layer properties will

2:24 open up and then you can play with this

2:27 to match it I believe this works best

2:29 now let's close it now we need to limit

2:31 it just to this Shadow area for it we

2:34 need to create a basic mask so select

2:36 the lasso tool and let us make a

2:38 selection around this

2:42 Shadow give it a bit of space so that we

2:44 have something to work upon whoops I

2:46 missed out on that area let's hold the

2:47 shift key and add that no issues now

2:50 once you have that selection in place

2:51 let's invert it by pressing control

2:53 shift I command shift I everything

2:55 except that area is now selected now we

2:57 need to remove it right we need to hide

2:59 it so so with the mask selected right

3:01 here and the foreground color black

3:03 press alt backspace or option delete to

3:06 fill that with black just like this so

3:08 that only those areas are being targeted

3:10 press control or command D to deselect

3:12 now we need to take the brush take a

3:15 soft round brush inside of General

3:17 brushes make sure it is black and then

3:19 you can erase the extra areas and you

3:21 can go soft towards the left hand side

3:23 towards where the fall off is so I'm

3:25 going to slowly and gradually remove

3:27 this from this side now that the side is

3:30 done you can also brighten individual

3:31 areas with a lower flow so let's say we

3:34 decrease the flow to about 1 or 2% like

3:37 so change the foreground color to white

3:39 and maybe let's say this area is dark so

3:42 just paint white in that particular area

3:45 just for a little areas here and there

3:46 that's all sometimes you may want to

3:48 zoom out this seems about right

3:50 something we can work with also let us

3:51 increase the flow again and with black

3:54 there are some areas that are left out

3:57 so let us bring back the original stuff

3:59 right here don't worry about the edges

4:01 right now there you go similarly right

4:03 here under the nose rest everything

4:05 looks okay all right pretty good at this

4:08 point I would love for you to look away

4:10 for a while away from the screen not

4:11 away from me I know I'm not that

4:13 handsome but still give your eyes a

4:14 little bit of break watch this video for

4:16 now and then when you get back to your

4:18 photo you would start seeing the things

4:19 that you would have missed otherwise so

4:21 let's go back to the properties of

4:22 Curves see if you needed any further

4:25 adjustments so right now this is what it

4:27 is let us increase it and see if it

4:29 helps let let us decrease it and see if

4:30 it helps so maybe I'll increase it ever

4:33 so slightly maybe this

4:36 much and from there all we need to do is

4:39 to just remove the lines and take care

4:41 of the coloring now there are just so

4:42 many ways to remove the lines you can

4:43 even try generative fill for it to keep

4:45 stuff simple let us create a brand new

4:47 layer and choose the brand new remove

4:50 tool you can also use the spot healing

4:52 brush tool you can also use the patch

4:54 tool absolutely up to you but the remove

4:56 tool makes it super simple you want to

4:58 make sure sample all layers is checked

5:00 and just paint along the lines that is

5:03 all you need to do and it should be

5:05 removed but no it's not let me try again

5:09 like so and it's magically gone there

5:11 are some dark areas which we'll take

5:12 care of later but for now let us just

5:15 remove the

5:18 lines now some areas are going to be

5:21 tricky so just paint over it don't worry

5:23 about it now we will take care of all of

5:25 those tricky areas later see how

5:28 beautifully they're going away

5:30 again this area is tricky so we'll leave

5:32 it at

5:34 that now let's zoom out a bit and see if

5:36 there are some discrepancies now there

5:38 are a couple areas that are a bit of a

5:40 hassle like this area and this area you

5:42 can just try painting over those with

5:44 the remove tool and try to erase those

5:46 completely and see what you get if that

5:48 doesn't work you can always Dodge and

5:49 burn all right that one worked pretty

5:52 good let's try this one that is good but

5:55 it's creating that weird texture all

5:57 around so let's go back and maybe we

5:59 might have have to try the patch tool

6:00 here but patch tool doesn't work on an

6:02 empty lip so we need to create a stamp

6:03 visible lip don't worry about the colors

6:05 right now I know there is this layer

6:07 added and there are colors all around

6:09 and it's just not looking right don't

6:11 worry about that right now we're going

6:12 to recolor later but for right now just

6:14 above this layer we will press control

6:16 alt shift and E command option shift and

6:18 E if you're on the Mac this creates a

6:20 stamp visible layer a merged layer of

6:22 everything you see on the canvas right

6:23 now and then let us try selecting the

6:25 patch tool right here and make a

6:27 selection of that

6:29 and let's try replacing it with

6:31 something else like so control or

6:33 command D to deselect it's a bit better

6:36 let us select the remove tool again and

6:37 take care of the corrections here and

6:39 there so like so and this area at the

6:45 bottom there we go we have come so far

6:49 now you can take the time to fix little

6:51 issues here and there but I think we are

6:52 pretty much done except for this tricky

6:56 area because no matter how much you try

6:57 to remove it with the remove to it's

7:00 going to mess it up um it's just not

7:03 looking right so you can try the Clone

7:05 stem tube Dodge and burn differently in

7:06 those areas but if you're using the

7:08 latest version of Photoshop why not just

7:10 try generative fill so with the topmost

7:13 layer selected right now because

7:14 generative fill will take everything

7:15 into consideration select the lasso tool

7:17 right here and by the way if you're

7:18 using a Captain Jack Sparrow version of

7:20 Photoshop or for some reason you don't

7:22 have access to generator fil you can

7:23 always try remove tool it will get you

7:25 halfway there and then use dodging and

7:27 burning to improve that in this case I'm

7:29 just going to completely select the

7:30 tricky area and then in the contextual

7:32 taskar by the way if you cannot see it I

7:34 always close it it is distracting go to

7:36 window and make sure you see contextual

7:37 taskbar click on generator fill and

7:40 generate you can also try typing in no

7:42 see what you get and that was pretty

7:43 fast so here's the first second third

7:47 pick what you like I really like the

7:49 third one and you can always apply

7:50 liquify to match the shape of this with

7:52 the original face let us hide this bar

7:54 click on this three dots hide bar here

7:57 is the before as you can see and here is

8:00 the after there's a bit of change so

8:02 let's press control alt shift and E

8:05 command option shift and E on a Mac this

8:07 creates a merged layer again go to

8:09 filter convert for smart filters so that

8:11 whatever filter we apply we can change

8:12 the values later hit okay and then go to

8:15 filter liquify now you can keep the

8:18 original photo by the side but I'm just

8:19 going to eyeball it with a forward W

8:22 tool right here let's make the brush a

8:23 bit bigger and just nudge it slowly and

8:26 gradually towards the right this seems

8:29 to be about right hit okay and there we

8:32 have it our prot protruded nose now at

8:35 this point it seems like we are pretty

8:36 much done all is left is coloring but

8:38 then again if you want to just nitpick

8:40 it make it absolutely perfect you would

8:41 notice that there are some ups and downs

8:43 here and there and the reason why that

8:44 is happening because the lighting was

8:46 different in the shadow area because of

8:48 course the main light was not falling

8:49 there so you can fix that with highend

8:51 dodging and burning and this step is

8:52 completely optional however all you have

8:54 to do is to create a blank new layer

8:56 change the blend mode to soft light take

8:59 the brush and start painting with black

9:01 and white in certain areas to dodge and

9:03 burn it in this case I'm just going to

9:05 use a plugin which I highly recommend

9:06 for high-end dodging and burning and

9:08 they have recently updated it so that

9:09 the plugin now works with Black and

9:11 White foros 2 earlier it didn't use to

9:13 so let's press control alt shift and E

9:16 create a new stamp visible lab let's go

9:18 to filter retouch for me this is what I

9:21 have been recommending inside of that

9:23 Dodge Burn by the way if you want to do

9:26 it manually I have a video on that as

9:27 well if you can watch it later but this

9:29 does it instantly absolutely

9:31 automatically and it works on black and

9:34 white photos flawlessly just take a look

9:36 at it everything gone so here's the

9:37 before see all of those discrepancies

9:40 ups and downs and you can increase the

9:42 blending like so now this becomes

9:44 absolutely soft maybe I'm going to keep

9:46 it this way all the way to 200 since

9:49 this is black and white we don't need

9:50 any warmth here this is fine everything

9:52 Auto and you want to make sure soft

9:54 light layer is checked hit apply so that

9:56 this creates a gray layer and all you

9:58 have to do is to change the then move to

10:00 soft light and everything is adjustable

10:02 let's have a look here's the before and

10:04 here is the after pretty cool and

10:06 anytime you think it's too much you can

10:07 always decrease the opacity I'm just

10:09 going to go with 80 that's good if

10:11 you're interested in the incredible

10:34 lay at the top and then go to filter

10:36 convert for smart filters let us not

10:39 later hit okay and then go to filter

10:42 neural filters it may not be perfect but

10:45 it's a great start and maybe enough for

10:47 this one inside of neural filters scroll

10:50 down and you want to check color-wise

10:51 that's all just check it and there you

10:54 have it colorized fantastic now there

10:57 are a couple areas which you might want

10:58 to correct take your time to do it but

11:01 this is fine by me scroll down you can

11:03 make further adjustments right here you

11:05 can also make adjustments on the image

11:07 directly but I'm going to leave it at

11:08 default output to Smart filter is fine

11:11 hit okay and there you have it

11:13 wonderfully colored now there are other

11:15 areas where we are losing the colors if

11:17 you have a look at the before and after

11:18 here's the before here's the after

11:20 Shadows are gone other areas are not

11:22 okay so here is what to do the simplest

11:24 of the steps select the bottommost

11:26 adjustment lay hold the shift key and

11:29 select the topmost adjustment layer

11:31 press contrl or command G to group it

11:33 all up and let us name this group by

11:35 double clicking on the text remove

11:38 Shadow and then create a mask right here

11:41 I recommend holding the ALT key of the

11:42 option key and click on the mask button

11:44 to create a negative mask don't worry

11:47 your work is still in there select the

11:49 brush with white as the foreground color

11:51 select a soft round brush like this just

11:54 paint over the shadow areas broadly

11:57 that's all there you go easily gone and

12:00 only paint over the areas which you want

12:02 to take care of like so how wonderful

12:06 now that I look at it and that is why

12:07 break is important I forgot to remove

12:09 the Shadow from the air section so um

12:12 you can do it yourself take your time to

12:14 do it but that is how to incredibly

12:17 remove Shadows maybe bring back a little

12:20 bit of those areas as well because the

12:21 entire color was changed so here is the

12:25 overall before and here is the after

12:29 crazy crazy difference isn't it so that

12:31 is how to remove harsh impossible Dark

12:33 Shadows in Photoshop and I really hope

12:35 again that you remove all of those from

12:36 your life as well all you need to do is

12:39 to Target the shadow areas and there are

12:41 several ways to do it you can do it with

12:42 masks or like in this video you can do

12:44 it with blend if and then we have to

12:46 repair the edges and finally take care

12:47 of the color and the undulations and

12:50 that's broadly all there is to it I hope

0:00 오늘은 여러분의 삶에서 없애고 싶을 만큼 짙고 어두운 그림자를 제거하는 방법을 알려드릴게요. 몇 달 전, 아니 꽤 오래전에 제가 짙은 그림자 제거하는 영상을 만들었는데, 그때는 복잡한 마스크 같은 걸 사용했었죠.

0:14 하지만 지금은 제 실력이 훨씬 늘어서 그런 거 없이도 충분히 가능합니다. 자, 그럼 바로 포토샵으로 넘어가서 시작해 볼까요? 혹시 이 사진으로 같이 따라 하고 싶으신 분들은 아시죠? 설명란에 있는 링크를 확인해 주세요.

0:25 그림자가 너무 짙으면 밝게 한다고 해결될 문제가 아니에요. 색감도 다를 거고, 다른 부분들도 차이가 많을 거고, 그림자 안쪽의 밝기 자체도 좀 다를 거예요. 왜냐하면 당연히 주 광원이 그쪽까지 닿지 않으니까요. 그래서 우리는 일종의 착시 효과를 줘서 작업을 더 수월하게 만들어야 합니다.

0:42 우선 그림자 영역을 밝게 만들어 볼게요. 그러기 위해서, 예상하셨겠지만, 조정 레이어 아이콘을 클릭하고 곡선을 선택해서 곡선 조정 레이어를 만들 겁니다. 그리고 마스크 대신 다른 방법을 쓸 거예요. 일단 이렇게 밝게 만들어 주세요.

1:36 아마 이 정도에서 멈추는 게 좋겠네요. 그림자와 폴오프가 영역마다 다르기 때문에 완전히 부드럽게 만들 수는 없어요. 지금은 이 정도면 괜찮을 것 같아요. 확인을 누르세요.

1:45 자, 보시다시피 색감이 약간씩 다르죠? 우선 색 때문에 신경 쓰이지 않도록 색을 먼저 없애겠습니다. 나중에 다시 칠할 거예요. 조정 레이어 아이콘을 클릭하고 단색을 선택한 다음, 채도가 0인 회색, 흰색, 검은색 아무거나 선택하세요.

2:03 확인을 누르고 블렌딩 모드를 색상으로 변경합니다. 이건 그냥 색조/채도 조정 레이어를 만들어서 채도를 낮추는 것과는 달라요. 더 자세한 내용이 궁금하시면 나중에 확인 레이어 관련 영상을 참고해 주세요. 어쨌든 지금은 색을 없앴으니 더 이상 신경 쓰이지 않겠죠? 그럼 조정 레이어 속성 아이콘을 더블 클릭해서 곡선으로 돌아가서 이걸 조절해서 색감을 맞춰줄 수 있습니다.

2:27 저는 이 방법이 제일 효과적인 것 같아요. 이제 닫겠습니다. 이제 이 효과가 그림자 영역에만 적용되도록 해야 해요. 그러기 위해서 기본적인 마스크를 만들어야 합니다. 올가미 도구를 선택하고 이 그림자 주변에 선택 영역을 만들어 주세요.

2:42 작업할 공간을 확보하기 위해 약간 여유를 남겨두세요. 앗, 저 부분을 놓쳤네요. Shift 키를 누른 채로 추가하면 됩니다. 괜찮아요.

2:50 이제 선택 영역이 제대로 지정되었으면, Ctrl+Shift+I, Command+Shift+I를 눌러서 선택 영역을 반전시킵니다. 이제 해당 영역을 제외한 모든 영역이 선택되었어요. 이제 제거해야겠죠? 가려야 합니다.

2:59 마스크가 선택된 상태에서 전경색이 검은색인지 확인하고, Alt+Delete 또는 Option+Delete를 눌러서 검은색으로 채워서 해당 영역만 타겟팅되도록 합니다.

3:10 Ctrl+D 또는 Command+D를 눌러서 선택을 해제합니다. 이제 브러시를 선택해서 일반 브러시에서 부드러운 원형 브러시를 선택하고, 검은색인지 확인한 다음, 추가 영역을 지울 수 있습니다. 폴오프를 이용해서 왼쪽으로 부드럽게 이동하면서요.

3:25 그래서 이쪽에서 천천히 점진적으로 제거할 겁니다. 이제 측면이 완료되었으니, 더 낮은 흐름으로 개별 영역을 밝게 할 수도 있습니다. 예를 들어, 우리...

3:34 흐름을 약 1~2%로 줄이고, 전경색을 흰색으로 변경하고, 예를 들어 이 영역이 어둡다고 가정해 봅시다. 그러면 해당 특정 영역에 흰색을 칠하세요. 여기저기에 약간만 칠하면 됩니다. 때로는 확대해야 할 수도 있어요. 이 정도면 괜찮을 것 같아요. 이제 작업할 수 있습니다.

3:50 흐름을 다시 늘리고, 검은색으로 남은 영역이 있으니, 바로 여기에 원래 내용을 다시 가져옵시다. 지금은 가장자리에 대해 걱정하지 마세요. 됐습니다. 마찬가지로 코 아래에도요. 나머지는 모두 괜찮아 보입니다. 좋아요, 아주 좋아요.

4:07 이 시점에서, 잠시 동안 화면에서 눈을 떼세요. 저에게서 눈을 떼지 않으셨으면 좋겠지만, 제가 그렇게 잘생기지 않았다는 걸 알지만, 그래도 눈에 휴식을 주세요. 잠시 영상을 멈추고, 사진으로 돌아오면, 그렇지 않았으면 놓쳤을 것들이 보이기 시작할 겁니다.

4:21 따라서 곡선 속성으로 돌아가서 추가 조정이 필요한지 확인해 봅시다. 지금은 이렇습니다. 늘려서 도움이 되는지 봅시다. 줄여서 도움이 되는지 봅시다. 아주 약간 늘릴 겁니다. 아마 이 정도요.

4:36 이제 남은 것은 선을 제거하고 색상을 처리하는 것뿐입니다. 선을 제거하는 방법은 정말 많습니다. 생성형 채우기를 사용해 볼 수도 있습니다. 간단하게 하기 위해, 새 레이어를 만들고 새로운 제거 도구를 선택합시다.

4:50 스팟 복구 브러시 도구를 사용할 수도 있고, 패치 도구를 사용할 수도 있습니다. 완전히 여러분에게 달려 있지만, 제거 도구를 사용하면 매우 간단해집니다. 모든 레이어 샘플링이 선택되어 있는지 확인하고 선을 따라 칠하기만 하면 됩니다. 그게 전부예요. 제거되어야 하는데, 안 되네요. 다시 시도해 보겠습니다. 이렇게 하면 마법처럼 사라집니다.
