Description

Dr. Richard Sutton is Professor of Computing Science at the University of Alberta, a Canadian Institute for Advanced Research AI Chair, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. He is a pioneer of the interdisciplinary field of reinforcement learning, in which Japan and Canada share many interests, and in which there is tremendous potential for collaboration between Japanese and Canadian researchers. Professor Sutton founded one of the field’s largest laboratories—the Reinforcement Learning & Artificial Intelligence Lab—at the U of A. Dr. Sutton’s lecture, “A Perspective on Intelligence,” encouraged the audience to think critically about the nature of intelligence, especially our quest to understand how minds work and how we can make them work better.
